## 5 New Basel Openings to Try This Autumn

Basel is always changing – and since the summer, a handful of new places have caught our attention. Whether you are visiting for a few days or staying a little longer, here are five new Basel addresses worth adding to your list.

### 1. Tinka – Specialty Coffee at Aeschenplatz

Coffee lovers have a new reason to stop at Aeschenplatz. Tinka brings an Australian-inspired approach to specialty coffee, with carefully selected beans from Basel's Kaffeemacher:innen and a clean, contemporary setting.

It is an easy place to drop into for a morning flat white, an iced latte or a quick coffee on your way into the city.

**H&F tip:** A great morning stop if you are staying around Aeschenplatz, the Kunstmuseum or Basel SBB.

### 2. Strick Schnack – Basel's New Knitting Café

Part café, part yarn shop and part creative meeting place, Strick Schnack opened near Badischer Bahnhof in August.

Run by mother-and-daughter team Corinne and Romina Leuenberger, the café combines coffee and cake with carefully selected yarns and knitting workshops. It is a wonderfully different addition to the neighbourhood – and a cosy choice for a slower afternoon.

**H&F tip:** Perfect for a rainy Basel afternoon or for anyone looking for something a little different from the usual café stop.

### 3. Cream Cakery – A New Home at Spalenberg

Basel's cheesecake specialist has moved into a larger new home at Spalenberg 55. Alongside its handmade cheesecakes, Cream Cakery also serves bagels, coffee and matcha.

Its location in the heart of the Old Town makes it particularly easy to include during an afternoon of shopping and exploring the historic centre.

**H&F tip:** Pick up something sweet and continue through Spalenberg towards the Marktplatz and the Rhine.

### 4. Sisyphus Bar – A New Cocktail Address

Opened in September at Klosterberg 5, Sisyphus is the new project from Pascal and Milena Kunz, formerly behind Basel's Hinz & Kunz.

The intimate bar has around 40 seats and puts the focus on well-made cocktails, alongside low- and no-alcohol options. A welcome new address for an evening drink in the city centre.

**H&F tip:** Save this one for an after-dinner drink – it is within easy walking distance of Barfüsserplatz and the Old Town.

### 5. ava by Tanja Grandits – Food, Design & the Rhine

Opened on 18 September, ava is the new concept store from acclaimed Basel chef Tanja Grandits.

Set on St. Johanns-Vorstadt with views towards the Rhine, the shop brings together Grandits' own products with a colourful selection of food, ceramics, textiles, design and beautiful objects for the home.

**H&F tip:** Combine a visit with a walk along the Rhine and across the Johanniterbrücke – one of our favourite ways to see this part of Basel.
