Rent out your home during Basel's fairs

Rent out your apartment or house during selected Basel fairs to international fair guests and companies.

We take care of marketing, bookings and looking after your guests.

How it works

  1. 01

    Tell us about your home

Send us a few basic details and 2–3 photos so we get a first impression.

  2. 02

    Viewing & offer

If your home suits what we offer, we visit and photograph it in person. Together we then set the price and prepare your listing for your approval.

  3. 03

    Marketing & letting

We present your home to our clients. When a booking is made you receive all the details and the rental contract — and we look after everything until your guests leave.

What we're looking for

  • Mainly apartments and houses in Basel.
  • Homes in the nearby surrounding area can also be considered, depending on the property.
  • Bathroom and toilet must be inside the accommodation.
  • We generally let entire apartments and houses for exclusive use. Separate granny flats or self-contained living areas may also be suitable.

Frequently asked questions

Which properties does House & Food let?

We mainly let apartments and houses in Basel. Homes in the nearby surrounding area — for example Allschwil, Binningen, Bottmingen, Münchenstein or Riehen — can also be considered depending on the property, especially larger apartments and houses. The bathroom and toilet must be inside the accommodation. We do not take on apartments with a bathroom or toilet in the stairwell.

Can I rent out just one room?

We generally let entire apartments and houses for the exclusive use of our guests. Exceptions are possible for a clearly separated area — for example a separate attic room, granny flat or your own floor with a private entrance and sufficient privacy.

Who are the guests?

Our guests are mainly international business travellers, companies, exhibitors and fair visitors coming to Basel for selected events.

How long do guests stay?

Most guests stay 5–6 nights. The minimum and maximum length of stay is agreed with you individually.

How is the nightly price set?

We set the nightly price together with you, taking into account the location, size, fittings and the fair period in question. We can only give a concrete price estimate after seeing your home in person.

How will my home be photographed and presented?

We photograph your home during our viewing appointment for the later listing. Ideally it is already furnished at that point much as it will be presented to guests. We then create the listing with photos, a description, the price and all important details and special features. Before we offer your home to our clients, you receive the listing to check and approve.

Do I have to offer my home every year or for every fair?

No. You decide for which fair periods your home is available. Availability is always agreed with you.

How do I need to prepare my home for guests?

Preparing and pre-cleaning before arrival is generally up to you. You receive a checklist from us to prepare the home. The final cleaning is billed separately.

Who takes care of the final cleaning?

You decide. The final cleaning can be done either by our cleaning team or by you. If you do the final cleaning yourself, the cleaning fee we charge the client is paid out to you on top. We agree which option you prefer with you in advance.

When do I receive a contract?

If a letting comes about, we first inform you of the booking dates. As soon as the booking is definitively confirmed on our side, you receive the corresponding rental contract, which must be signed and returned to us.

What happens before the guests arrive?

Before arrival we share the relevant booking and arrival information with you again. You prepare the home using our checklist. During the stay we are available as a contact for both you and your guests.

What happens if there is damage?

The handling of damage is set out in the rental contract. Minor damage under CHF 100 is not passed on. Larger damage is reviewed case by case and settled accordingly.

Do I need professional photos for my first enquiry?

No. For the first enquiry, 2–3 simple photos are enough for us to get a rough impression of your home. Nothing needs to be fully prepared or perfectly photographed yet. The actual photos for the listing are taken later at the personal viewing.

What happens after my first enquiry?

First we review your basic information and the photos you sent. If your home is a good fit for what we offer, we send you further information — for example our preparation checklist or a sample contract. We then arrange a personal viewing appointment. We photograph the home, discuss the details and set the price together with you. After that we create your listing. Only once you have approved it do we start marketing.

Does my enquiry commit me to renting out?

No. The first enquiry and viewing are non-binding. A binding agreement only comes about once a concrete booking is made and the corresponding rental contract is signed.

Optional, but very helpful: 2–3 photos give us a first impression. They don't need to be complete or professional.
